Spy Shots: Aston Martin AM 310 Concept shows up in Italy... could it be the Vanquish?

I have previously blogged that all BMWs now seem to look the same.  Well it would appear that the contagion has spread and infected Aston Martin.  Can’t we have something new please.  They’re now looking awfully boring

Aston Martin AM 310 Concept... possible Vanquish?

Aston Martin recently took a right-hand drive version of the company's AM 310 Concept for a spin in Italy. The coupe was on hand for a brief photo shoot, and sported a few different details from the model we saw debut at Villa d'Este. Marked by a more sane set of wheels and a more demure grille, this machine looks almost ready for production. Aston Martin has already made it clear the concept could give us an idea of the successor to the DB9 and DBS, and some voices are indicating this could be the next-generation Vanquish.
Despite its ultra luxury products, Aston Martin may not have the resources on hand to dabble in fully-functional concepts like other automakers. As such, it would make sense for the AM 310 to serve double duty as both a concept and a prototype.
The supercar rides on the same VH chassis as nearly every other Aston Martin product, though the AM 310 borrows the 6.0-liter V12 found in the DB9.

The Rapide Video

Recently I blogged about the Aston Martin Rapide video Would David Brown Roll in his Grave?

Well here it is in its full awfulness

Would David Brown Roll in his Grave?

Probably yes is the answer if this add for Aston Martin is anything to go by: http://www.astonmartin.com/eng/rapidetruepower

Puerile, hackneyed and utterly toe curling (who on earth is it aimed at?).  Can’t wait for Part 2 to feed my masochistic tendencies.

Arriving at the Pub

When I was living in Surrey I used to frequent the Noah’s Ark in Lurgashall West Sussex, one of the most picturesque pubs you could imagine, situated on the perfect English village green where the gentle click of willow on leather can often be heard on the long Summer evenings.

I often wondered what car would be best to arrive in at the pub to create the maximum attention.  After much contemplation of the usual suspects: RR Silver Ghost London to Edinburgh, Jaguar XKSS, AC Cobra 427, Tipo 61 Birdcage Maserati, P4 Ferrari etc, etc. I concluded that something out of the ordinary would be better.  So I decided on a J2 Allard which seemed to me to fit the bill – masculine, loud and very hirsute.

I  have only ever seen one and that was at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu so my ambition seemed doomed.  But now a Canadian company is making replicas so good that they could be like a sort Sanction 2 a la Aston Martin DB4GT  Vantage Zagato. See: PistonHeads Headlines

Now all I need is the dosh and I can knock ‘em dead art the Noah’s Ark!

Sic Transit Gloria Mundi

You may be forgiven in asking what on Earth happened to Aston Martin.  Latest news is that AM could build a hybrid badged as a Lagonda.  So in the last 50 years AM has gone from:

A paragon of sports cars - fast, gorgeous and a race winner

to this:

Lardy, ugly and a vulgar heap of metal that looks like it was penned by Subaru (no insult to Subaru - they make excellent cars but  good looking ones: you cannot be serious!).

Is this the end of Civilisation as we know it?
